Our Story

I grew up in Nigeria surrounded by the colours, textures and traditions that fill this shop. Adire, the Yoruba art of tie-and-dye, was never something I learned from a book — it was something I watched happen in courtyards and compounds, cloth dipped and knotted and hung to dry, every piece a little different from the last. Ankara prints were what we wore to weddings, to church, to celebrations that lasted all weekend. These weren't just clothes. They were how we told each other who we were.

 

Treasures in my Backyard started as a way to bring that same feeling here to the UK — to give people a way to wear, and live with, pieces that carry real craft and real story, rather than something mass-produced and anonymous. Every Adire and batik piece we sell is hand-dyed in small batches, which means no two are ever quite identical. That's not a flaw. That's the whole point.

 

This is a small, independent shop — every order is picked, packed and sent by me. I'm always adding new pieces as I find them, so thank you for being here and for supporting a business that's trying to do right by the people and traditions behind every item.
